Welcome

Our mission statement says, “Inspired by Jesus Christ, Communitas will be a place of belonging, growth and contribution.” This year we are focusing on the idea of “contribution.” In this brief reflection, I wish to share some thoughts around the contribution of the Community Living movement to Communitas’ corporate thinking.

Communitas is built on the premise that we listen to, and are guided by, the people we are called to serve; and that these people belong within the fabric of regular society. This is also a core principle of the Community Living movement. We see the impact of this model daily in Communitas.

For example, our Peer Support program employs people who have recovered mental health to support others in their mental health journeys. The Family Support Network, which used to gather only once per year, has expanded to include events outside of the annual retreat, as a direct response to the needs and desires of the families involved. And, because of their own requests, people who have developmental disabilities are now preparing for employment through classes and supports facilitated by the Community Living Program.

We believe that there is an intended meaning and purpose for each human life on earth. Therefore, we desire to continue to engage each other in the social dialogue of activity, conversation and change. Most importantly, we desire to work together with the people we serve through daily struggles, and recognize the contributions that we make to each other.

Thank you for visiting our website. May you find the information you are looking for. And, may you be inspired to find your part in this movement.
